Kiara Matos

Kiara Matos is a maker of objects always at “play”. Her work is inspired by her interest for well-designed objects, architecture from the mid-century era, and a taste for color. A native from Venezuela, Kiara started working with ceramics nearly 25 years ago.  There happened to be a studio at home that her mother had stopped using, and Kiara took classes at a local school and brought the closed studio back to life. She went on to become one of the top ceramic artists in Venezuela but given the political crisis she and her family moved to New Haven, CT 8 years ago, where she has continued her career.

When asked, Kiara Matos explains the allure of clay. “I feel almost like it picked me,” she says. “I can’t stay away from it. I can’t stop making things.”
